FAQ

Pergolas & Gazebos FAQ

Do pergolas need a permit in the Florida Keys?

Most attached or permanent pergolas and pavilions require a permit and engineered drawings. We handle both.

Aluminum or wood for a pergola in the Florida Keys?

Aluminum is the low-maintenance choice near salt water: it won't rot and holds up well with a quality powder-coat finish. Wood gives a warmer look but needs regular sealing and maintenance in South Florida's sun and humidity.

What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?

A pergola has open sides and an open or slatted roof, often with adjustable louvers, and is usually attached to the house or set over a deck or outdoor kitchen. A gazebo is a freestanding structure with a solid roof that gives full shade and rain cover. Both need to be engineered for Florida wind loads, and most need a permit.

What is a louvered roof pergola?

A louvered roof uses adjustable aluminum blades that open for sun and airflow or close for shade and rain. It's a popular way to make a pool deck or outdoor kitchen usable in more weather.
